Hiking in Alicante, Spain

hikersWith soaring mountains and plunging valleys, the province of Alicante provides all sorts of possibilities for a hiking or trekking excursion. So grab your hiking boots and a good map and get to exploring Alicante's natural beauty. If you want to experience the great outdoors but prefer to do so under the watchful eye of an experienced guide or as part of a group, there are plenty of companies that offer excursions.

The Sierra de Aitana, a mountain range in the north of the Alicante province, boasts several hiking routes. Also, look into an excursion to Busot, 24 kilometers inland from Alicante; along with hiking routes and stunning vistas you can make a stop at Busot's magnificent Cuevas del Canelobre (Canelobre Caves). While the suggestions are endless, one more "must" in terms of a hiking adventure is to head to the top of Mount Maigmó. On your way up to the peak, take a breather at the so-called Balcón de Alicante (Balcony of Alicante) which offers an unrivaled panorama over the Alicante landscape and, in teh distance, the impossibly blue Mediterranean Sea.
