castillo santa barbara

In a nutshell:
The Castillo de Santa Bárbara provides the setting for one of Alicante's most fascinating cultural offerings: the Capa Collection. Eduardo Capa, Alicantino sculptor and collector, decided to make his private collection public in order to draw much-deserved attention to Spanish contemporary sculpture. Today, with 250 of the collection's 700 pieces on display both indoors and outdoors, it's the most complete compilation of contemporary Spanish architecture in all of Spain!

As you meander the sprawling medieval castle's rooms and grounds, revel in the added bonus of being able to admire the impressive works of modern Spain's top-notch contemporary sculptors. Amongst names like Miguel Blay, Julio Antonio, Juan Buatista Adsuara, Alberto Sánchez, Martín Chirino and the collector's son Fernando Capa, you can also find works by Spain's famous surrealist painter Salvador Dalí, who dabbled in sculpture.
The Capa Collection also hosts a constant string of temporary expositions which shine the spotlight on a variety of art genres, including sculpture, drawing, painting, photography and mixed media.
